BAM fall hammer BFH serves for measuring impact sensitivity of solid high explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics and also primary explosives.

Impact sensitivity is one of the most important characteristics of energetic materials defining their safety in handling. Its determination is a necessary part of characterization of new explosives, modified formulations or manufacturing conditions, as well as defining influences of impurities or ageing.

BAM fall hammer BFH serves for measuring impact sensitivity of solid high explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics and also primary explosives.


BFH measures impact energy of a hammer of defined weight falling from a variable height and causing sample initiation. Flash, flame or explosion are observed upon sample initiation. Sample initiation can also be detected instrumentally using a unique gas and noise detector.

BFH is capable to detect sample sensitiveness within range of impact energies from 0.05 to 100 J, with maximum dropping height of 1 m. Set of five hammers with weight from 0.5 kg to 10 kg is supplied with the instrument.

Design of BFH ensures performance of the impact sensitivity test with required precision, repeatability and safety. This device complies with requirements of STANAG 4489, UN Recommendations on Transport of Dangerous Goods and EN 13631- 4:2002.
